In May 2024, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared 25ᵗʰ May as “World Football Day.”

This day aims to recognize the global impact of football (soccer) in promoting peace, development, and cultural exchange worldwide.

S. R. D. Prasad, a farmer–seed conserver from Kerala (Palakkad), has curated and safeguarded 650+ indigenous paddy varieties, maintaining a living seed bank and sharing seeds to revive traditional rice biodiversity—hence the Padma Shri (2024) recognition.

Cheruvayal Raman (also from Kerala) is famed for conserving Wayanad landraces but his collection is far smaller than 650+.

Narayanan E. P. and Sathyanarayana Beleri are not associated with conserving such a large number of paddy varieties.
